Overview
Healing Action Network provides comprehensive support to survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation through advocacy, awareness, and direct clinical services. We are seeking graduate-level social work and counseling students to join our team through our partnership with AmeriCorps. This unique, paid practicum opportunity offers hands-on experience in trauma focused therapy, empowering students to develop their skills in trauma-informed care while making a meaningful impact in the lives of survivors.
As a Trauma Therapy Practicum Student, you will provide direct clinical therapy services to survivors of human trafficking. This practicum emphasizes a trauma-informed approach, requiring advanced therapeutic skills to support clients with complex trauma histories. Through this position, you will have the opportunity to engage with clients at various stages of recovery, providing individual and group therapy in a client-centered, empowering environment.
Learning Activities
- Crisis Management: Support clients in moments of crisis, utilizing trauma-informed interventions to de-escalate situations and promote safety.
- Psychoeducation: Offer psycho-education on trauma, coping mechanisms, and emotional regulation to help clients better understand and manage their trauma responses.
- Individual Therapy: Provide trauma-informed, one-on-one therapy to survivors of human trafficking, helping clients process their experiences and work through the impacts of trauma.
- Group Therapy: Co-facilitate or lead therapeutic groups designed to foster healing, connection, and resilience among survivors.
- Assessment and Treatment Planning: Conduct clinical assessments and collaborate with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that focus on recovery goals and emotional well-being.
- Collaboration: Participate in supervision, team meetings, and interdisciplinary case reviews to ensure holistic and comprehensive client care.
AmeriCorps Service Commitment
As part of this practicum opportunity, students will need to enroll as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service program that allows individuals to make a difference in their communities while receiving benefits such as a monthly stipend, ongoing professional trainings and support, and an education award upon completion of required service hours.
